The 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has declared that he is not shutting the door on rejoining the All Progressives Congress (APC) — but only if the terms are clear and favorable.
Speaking to supporters on Thursday, the former Kano governor said:
> “If you say I should enter APC, I want to join APC. I didn’t say I will not join APC even now. But for what position?”
Kwankwaso reminded his audience that he and his allies were among the founding pillars of the APC, recalling how they endured harassment from security agencies and anti-graft bodies during its formation.
“We established the party, we led the struggle. We faced threats from the EFCC, ICPC, police, SSS, and others,” he said.
Despite that sacrifice, Kwankwaso lamented that his camp was sidelined during the APC’s eight years under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Throughout APC’s eight years, we got nothing — not even a ‘thank you’ — because our PDP faction didn’t start with them,” he noted.
The NNPP leader also explained that his brief return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) brought no rewards, as his group was denied even a zonal leadership slot.
Now, buoyed by the NNPP’s rising influence, Kwankwaso insists he will only align with parties that respect him and his movement.
“We are not in a hurry to leave the NNPP; we are happy here. But if anyone wants to work with us sincerely and not abandon us like before, we are ready,” he declared.
On a possible return to the PDP, he added:
“Even if PDP comes back and admits they made mistakes, let’s make clear promises — and let everyone see them.”
