Lagos Speaker Obasa Sets the Record Straight on His Plans

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has denied reports that he has declared his political ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Daily lens Report that Obasa clarified his position while speaking on TVC’s Beyond the Headlines programme, where he was alleged to have hinted at running for governor or senator. According to him, his remarks were misinterpreted.

“As a politician, you must wait for the hierarchy of the party to determine where they want you to go—whether as a lawmaker, governor, or senator. People should not be misled or try to misinterpret the party’s plans,” he said.

The Speaker stressed that his current priority is the progress of the country, praising President Bola Tinubu’s efforts. He also dismissed suggestions of retirement from politics but emphasized the importance of preparing for life after public service.

Obasa reiterated that political aspirations must align with party structures and leadership decisions, noting that individuals cannot determine their future roles in isolation.

 

“The party leaders will eventually sit down and decide who goes where. Whether as Speaker, Deputy Governor, Governor, or Senator, it’s all about consultation and engagement with party leaders. As an individual, you must align with the process,” he stated.

 

The Lagos Speaker urged supporters and the public to remain calm, insisting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains united and growing stronger ahead of 2027.
