Governor Peter Mbah Dumps PDP for APC, Cites South-East Marginalisation

Daily Lens Report

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), putting an end to weeks of speculation about his next political move.

In a statewide broadcast on Tuesday, Mbah said the decision followed “deep reflection” and was driven by the need to advance Enugu’s development and give the South-East a stronger voice in national politics.

“After long reflection, we have decided to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and join the All Progressives Congress. This is not a whimsical decision but a collective one by our political family — including members of the National Assembly, State Assembly, Executive Council, local government chairmen, councillors, political appointees, and over 80% of party executives,” the governor announced.

He expressed optimism that his defection would usher in “a new era of progress” for Enugu and the region.

Mbah also appreciated the PDP for providing the platform that brought him to office but lamented that the South-East had been consistently sidelined within the party despite its loyalty.

“The PDP stood by us during the campaign and our victory, and for that, we remain grateful. But too often, our voices in the South-East were disregarded,” he stated.

The governor pledged that his alignment with the APC would ensure Enugu’s interests are better represented at the federal level and strengthen the state’s developmental agenda.
