Akwanga, Nasarawa State — A somber mood has enveloped the Evangelical Reform Church of Christ (ERCC) Bethel Land congregation in Angwan Kpandom, Akwanga, following the sudden passing of Mrs. Gift Joshua, a devoted member who collapsed while moderating the church service on Sunday.
Eyewitnesses say Mrs. Joshua was actively leading the congregation in worship when she suddenly slumped at the altar. Church members and ushers immediately rushed to her aid, after which she was hurried to Ola Hospital in Akwanga for urgent medical attention. Unfortunately, medical personnel confirmed that she had passed away shortly after arrival.
The unexpected incident has thrown family members, church leadership, and the entire community into deep mourning. Members described Mrs. Joshua as a committed Christian, known for her passion for service, humility, and dedication to the work of God.
“She was full of life. No one imagined something like this could happen in the house of worship. We are still in shock,” a church member said with tears.
The ERCC Bethel Land leadership has since called for calm, offering prayers for the bereaved family while urging the congregation to continue trusting in God, even in difficult times. Plans for her burial and further announcements are expected to be released by the church and family.
