Residents of Eleyin in Isanlu-Isin, Isin LGA of Kwara State, on Saturday blocked a major road to protest the abduction of several family members by suspected terrorists. Protesters vowed to maintain the blockade until government authorities secure the release of victims and address worsening insecurity in Kwara South.
According to locals, seven people — a man, his three wives, and three children — were abducted, and despite a ransom payment of ₦20 million, they remain in captivity. Shockingly, those who delivered the ransom were also reportedly held hostage. Residents also alleged that three more children were abducted last Wednesday, heightening fear in the area.
Protesters called on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene, warning that if government fails to act, they may resort to self-help to protect their communities.
Meanwhile, outrage has trailed the recent political activities of APC local government chairmen in Kwara South, who were seen openly endorsing House Speaker Yakubu Danladi Salihu for governor in 2027. Critics described the move as insensitive, accusing politicians of prioritizing early campaigns over addressing the region’s deepening security crisis.
- Kwara South, comprising seven LGAs, has faced relentless bandit attacks since January, with repeated kidnappings and ransom demands forcing residents to flee their homes. Many fear the situation is spiraling out of control, while leaders remain distracted by politics.
