The Super Eagles of Nigeria have booked their ticket to the FIFA World Cup after an emphatic 4–0 victory over the Squirrels of Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday night.
The Nigerian side delivered one of their most dominant performances in recent years, thrilling the home crowd with attacking flair and clinical finishing.
Victor Osimhen opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a powerful strike after connecting with a cross from Ademola Lookman. The momentum continued as Samuel Chukwueze doubled the lead in the 34th minute with a well-placed finish.
Benin struggled to cope with Nigeria’s pace and creativity, and just before halftime, Alex Iwobi made it 3–0 with a curling effort from outside the box. The Super Eagles sealed the victory in the 78th minute when substitute Kelechi Iheanacho calmly slotted home from close range to make it 4–0.
With this result, Nigeria finished top of their qualifying group, guaranteeing their spot in the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
Head coach Finidi George praised his players for their discipline and teamwork, saying, “We came into this game knowing what was at stake. The boys gave everything, and this qualification means a lot to the nation.”
Fans at the packed Uyo stadium celebrated long after the final whistle, waving flags and chanting as fireworks lit up the night sky.
