Daily lens Report
The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has denied reports suggesting he is forming a political alliance with former President Goodluck Jonathan to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
According to Daily Lens, speculation arose after Obi held a private meeting with Jonathan in Abuja, sparking widespread debate and claims of an emerging opposition coalition. Supporters of both leaders have since taken to social media, urging either Obi or Jonathan to step aside in the interest of a united opposition.
However, in an interview with The PUNCH, Yunusa Tanko, Obi’s media aide and National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, clarified that the meeting was purely cordial and had no political undertone.
He said:
> “My principal and the former president have a very good working relationship and they know each other very well. Seeing them talk should not be interpreted as anything beyond a platonic discussion on how to move the country forward. There was no pact or discussion about 2027.”
Tanko added that even during a previous meeting in Ghana, where he was present, there was no talk of political alliance or election plans, emphasizing that the discussions were centered only on national issues and governance.
