The Presidency has cautioned activist and politician Omoyele Sowore against proceeding with his planned protest in Abuja to demand the release of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), had announced that the demonstration, tagged #FreeNnamdiKanuNow, would take place on October 20 at 7 a.m.
Reacting to the announcement, Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga accused Sowore of attempting to incite unrest under the guise of activism. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Onanuga wrote:
> “You are nothing more than an anarchist masquerading as a rights activist. You know Nnamdi Kanu is facing trial for treason, yet you want to cause a breakdown of law and order. Is this your idea of a revolution — where the law of the jungle replaces the rule of law?”
Onanuga also took aim at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for supporting the planned march, describing his stance as “reckless and unbecoming of a statesman.” He stressed that legal matters cannot be resolved through street protests, adding that the government remains committed to due process.
> “While the wheel of justice can sometimes turn slowly—partly due to delays from Kanu’s lawyers—he will get the justice he deserves for his alleged offences,” Onanuga stated.
