Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cautioned former President Goodluck Jonathan against yielding to pressure to join the 2027 presidential race.
Speaking Thursday night on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Wike said those pushing Jonathan into the contest only want to exploit him and destabilize President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
“With all due respect, those calling Jonathan now—where were they in 2015 when he needed support? They just want to use him to cause a crisis,” Wike declared. “Tinubu must be allowed to complete two terms.”
The former Rivers State governor dismissed suggestions of a clash between his loyalty to Tinubu and his past ties to Jonathan, under whom he served as Minister of State for Education. “Jonathan has never told me he wants to contest in 2027. I have never sat down with him to say I will support him,” he clarified.
Wike also took a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his warning on worsening hunger, insisting the administration is on course. “What do you mean by hunger? There will always be. Things are improving. To say nothing is being done isn’t fair. Did this hunger just start under Tinubu? More money is going to states, not Tinubu’s pocket.”
